COLGATE BLANKS MEN'S SOCCER, 3-0

HAMILTON, NY (09/13/03) - The Colgate University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout over Saint Joseph's behind a two goal performance by Peter Bourquin. SJU drops to 3-2 on the season. Bourquin put the Raiders on top in the first half at 26:58 when he netted a shot from just inside the box. Colgate goalie Jon Brunell turned aside two St. Joe's opportunities to keep the Raiders on top heading to the break. Brunell finished with five saves to record his first shutout of the season. Reed Grimes tallied his first goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half. Freshman Kevin Toomey sent a free kick across the goal towards the head of Grimes who delivered the ball past SJU senior keeper Kevin Dougher (four saves) for the score. Bourquin's second goal of the game and team leading fourth of the season at 71:42 set the final score. The Raiders outshot St. Joe's 13-12, but was outcornered 11-6.
