TOWSON, MD (09/14/02) -- The Saint Joseph's University men's tennis team had its best outing in recent history on the courts this past weekend, capturing the eight-team Towson Fall Invitational. Number one singles player, sophomore Francisco Velazquez won all four of his matches, defeating the top singles players from Georgetown, Delaware, Monmouth and Villanova. Velazquez had to go to three sets against Georgetown's Troy Crichlow, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, before pulling out his final match of the weekend. Freshman Jimmy Holland also swept his three matches at number two singles. Playing against opponents from the same teams, Holland swept all six sets he competed in. At three singles, freshman Chris Spencer won three of four matches, losing only to Georgetown's Mark Losher. Fellow freshman Antonio Aniello also won three of four matches, falling to Georgetown's Dennis Cravedi. On the doubles side, the SJU pair of sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan and freshman A.J. Garabebian took three of four matches, falling to Villanova's Lucas Kaster and Ricardo Baracdi, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. The Hawks are next in action this weekend at the Princeton Invitational (September 20-22).
