PHILADELPHIA, PA (3/19/02) - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team won its season home opener Tuesday evening against Lehigh. SJU downed the Mountain Hawks 16 to 8, scoring 10 unanswered goal in the second half en route to the win. Junior Brett Dymarczyk led the way for the Hawks scoring six goals while sophomore Kristin Teklinsky scored five and assisted on two others. Lehigh jumped out to an early start, scoring the first goal just inside the one minute mark as sophomore Ella Studdiford found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. The Mountain Hawks proceeded to blast three more shots into the back of the Hawk net to take a 4-0 lead. Dymarczyk responded off a Teklinsky assist putting SJU on the board half way through the first stanza. Lehigh's Suzanne Aronowitz answered 40 seconds later, putting the ball between the pipes. Dymarczyk fought back, scoring back to back goals to cut the lead by two. Lehigh's Kristin Strohm and Rosie Sherry each netted goals but the Hawk offense was relentless as Dymarczyk, Teklinsky and Shannon Hungate all tallied goals to keep the game within one at the half. Lehigh closed out the first half with a 7-6 lead. Saint Joseph's received a spark during the seven-minute break and flew out of the gates to begin the second half. Junior Kelly Butler caught a feed from Maura McNamara to blast one into Mountain Hawk territory tying the game 7-7. SJU's solid passing abilities and defensive skills proved too much for Lehigh as the Hawks scored nine unanswered goals, dominating Finnesey turf. SJU outscored Lehigh 10-1 in the second stanza allowing the Mountain Hawks to score their lone goal at the 28 minute mark. Saint Joseph's ended the game with a final score of 16-8. Senior goalie Lauren Bradley protected the net notching a total of seven saves for the Hawks. The Hawks, now 1-1, will play host to Villanova, Sunday, March 24. The game is set for 1 pm.
