DUQUESNE TOPS SAINT JOSEPH'S, 9-5, IN WOMEN'S LAX

PHILADELPHIA (04/12/03) – Duquesne's Ginger Flocco and Kelly Mulford each recorded hat tricks as the Dukes (8-4, 2-2 Atlantic 10) held Saint Joseph's scoreless for twenty mintues in the second half to garner a 9-5 Atlantic 10 victory. Junior Kristen Teklinsky led SJU (2-8, 0-5) with three goals and an assist. Duquesne's Laura App started things off with the game's first goal at the 23:31 mark of the first half and Teklinsky evened the score with an unassisted goal three minutes later. DU dominated the rest of the first half, scoring four straight goals – two by Mulford and one each by Becca West and Flocco – to take a 5-1 lead. Teklinsky scored the final goal of the first half (5:44) and assisted on freshman Kerry O'Connell's goal just two minutes into the second half to bring the Hawks within two goals at 5-3. That was as close as they would get. The Dukes rattled off four unanswered goals and coasted to the 9-5 victory. Mulford started the run with a goal at 21:21, before Flocco followed with two of her own. App finished the DU scoring with her second goal at the 11:34 mark. The Hawks tacked on two goals, one by Teklinsky and one by junior defender Megan Gresh, to close the game. Sophomore Courtney Huff stopped seven shots in the net for SJU, while Sarah Pacini made nine saves for DU. Saint Joseph's held a 21-17 advantage in shots and a 19-17 lead in groundballs. The Hawks return to action on Tuesday when they host American at 5:00 p.m.
