WOMEN'S LAX KNOCKS OFF DREXEL, 10-8
PHILADELPHIA (3/26/04) -- Seniors Kristin Teklinsky and Amie Schmoltze combined to score seven goals as Saint Joseph's defeated city rival Drexel, 10-8, on Friday. Down 2-1 within the first five minutes, the Hawks rallied to score five straight goals and seven of the next eight to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Dragons netted two goals before the 25:43 mark, sandwiched by a senior Megan Gresh tally, gave the hosts a 2-1 lead in the early going. Teklinsky and Schmoltze traded goals twice to put the Hawks up 5-2 going into halftime.
Junior Shannon Scott got into the scoring with her early second half goal and added another after Tekslinky's third of the game. Trailing 8-4, Drexel mounted a comeback to draw within 9-8, but Teklinsky added an insurance goal with 1:23 to play to keep the Dragons at bay.
Teklinsky scored four goals, while Schmoltze added three for SJU. Junior goalkeeper Courtney Huff made nine saves in the cage.
