WOMEN'S ROWERS SWEEP LEHIGH DUEL
PHILADELPHIA (3/23/03) - After a full day of racing on Saturday, the Hawk women returned to the water on Sunday and swept past Lehigh in duel competionon on the Schuylkill RIver. The river was very fast from heavy rain on Thursday and Friday and the fast current made for fun races.
The Women's Freshman 8 boat took Lehigh from the 'get-go', besting them by :28 seconds. The Freshman 8 had some equiment problems during the race but managed to tough it to the finish ahead of Lehigh.
The Women's Varsity and Second Varsity 8 rowed very smart and strong races. In both races Lehigh shot out at the start, but both Hawk boats chopped them down to take the lead by the boathouse and never looked back. It was a huge win for the Varsity Eight since Lehigh is considered a true contender for Dad Vail Gold, after winning the Head of the Charles in the fall.
