SJU FALLS AT DELAWARE, 1-0

NEWARK, DE (9/5/01) - Senior Sara Wilson headed home a Ginette Buffone indirect kick in the 54th minute to lead Delaware to a 1-0 win over Saint Joseph's in women's soccer action Wednesday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium. "We played very well," stated SJU head coach Jess Reynolds following the match. "We dominated the whole second but just could not finish." The Hawks defense was strong on the night led by the aggressive play of goalie Christy Ganc (4 saves). Moving to center midfield to replace the injured Danielle Gregoire (knee sprain) was Jen Harris. She teamed with senior co-captain Laurie Muller to give Ganc a solid line of protection. UD goalkeeper Rachel Bersin notched a shutout in her first start of the season. Her 11 career shutouts rank her fourth on the Delaware all-time list. Bersin recorded two of her three saves late in the game to stop Hawk scoring opportunities and secure the victory for the Blue Hens. SJU (1-1) returns home to play host to Kent State this Friday at 4:00 PM.
