SAINT JOSEPH'S DOMINATES ST. BONAVENTURE, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA (10/5/01) - Saint Joseph's totally dominated visiting St. Bonaventure in posting a 2-0 win on Finnesey Field on Friday night. The Hawks controlled play the entire evening, out-shooting the Bonnies, 25-4, on the night in improving to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play. "This is the first time all season that we came out and played well," stated first year head coach Jess Reynolds. "We played 90 minutes of good soccer. We just looked great. Our big thing was to take risks offensively and they started coming through." Despite the Hawks offensive prowess, the game was scoreless at halftime, as St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Karen Cunningham recorded seven saves in the first half. SJU fired 16 shots in the opening period, while SBU attempted just three shots. Junior Christy Ganc made the play of the day, stopping a point blank shot by Lisa Nicola on a breakaway. It was one of two saves on the night for the veteran keeper who recorded her first win of the season to even her record at 1-1-1. Senior Kim Dwyer put the Hawks on the scoreboard, heading home a crossing pass from the deep left corner by sophomore Michelle Ford in the 54th minute. It was Dwyer's third game-winner of the season. Ford then gave the Hawks some insurance by converting a breakaway in the 69th minute off a feed from junior Kim Miller. Dwyer finished with a career-high 10 shots while Ford and junior Katie Watson each added four shots. The Hawks next host Duquesne on Sunday at Noon. St. Bonaventure (2-5-1, 1-1) plays at Temple on Sunday (1:00 PM).
