HAWKS FALL AT GW, 2-0

WASHINGTON, DC (10/14/01) - Redshirt sophomore Kim Warner and senior co-captain Jessica Sultzer each scored a goal and sophomore goalkeeper Christine O'Malley made six saves to lead George Washington to 2-0 victory over the Saint Joseph's Hawks at the GW-Mount Vernon Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon. It marked the second straight A-10 defeat for SJU after opening conference play with a 1-0-2 mark. Warner's seventh goal of the season gave GW a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. It came on a shot from the top of the box that found the top right corner of the net, just beyond the reach of Hawk keeper, Christy Ganc. The Colonials extended the lead to 2-0 after gaining control of a loose ball in the box. Senior Erin Coppedge fed Warner on the left side who then found Sultzer in the middle. Sultzer beat a scrambling Ganc to the lower left corner of the net for her second goal of the season. The Hawks tried to stage a comeback, but could not solve O'Malley, who made some excellent saves to help preserve her first collegiate shutout. SJU, which hosts UMass (10/19) and Rhode Island (10/21) next weekend, falls to 4-4-2 overall. The victory improves GW's record to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic 10.
