DWYER SCORES GAME-WINNER TO LIFT SJU TO 1-0 WIN OVE RURI IN HER FINAL HOME GAME
PHILADELPHIA (10/21/01) -Playing in her final home game of her career, senior Kim Dwyer tallied the game-winning goal in the 65th minute to lead the Saint Joseph's Hawks to a 1-0 win over Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon.
Dwyer found the back of the net after receiving a pass from sophomore Michelle Ford to put the Hawks, It was the fourth game winnning goal for Dwyer this season, and her fifth overall.
Besides Dwyer, it was also the final hoem game for seniors Laurie Muller and Lauren Rozanski. "This was such a big win for us, especially since it was senior day," said SJU head coach Jess Reynolds. "We didn't play to our full potential this afternoon, but coming out with a win says a lot about the passion and character of this team."
Saint Joseph's was outshot by Rhode Island, 15-6, but the Hawk defense played aggressively and competitively containing the Rams en route to the win. Junior goalie Christy Ganc recorded eight saves for the Hawks as she tallied her third shutout of the season.
SJU, now 5-6-2 overall, 2-3-2 in conference play, will head to Dayton on Friday, October 26 to play the Flyers. Rhode Island falls to 8-5-1, 3-3-1 in the Atlantic 10.
