DAYTON GETS PAST SJU, 2-1

DAYTON, OH (10/26/01) -The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team took the Atlantic 10's best team to the ropes on a cold Friday night in Ohio before falling at Dayton, 2-1. UD's Erin Showalter blasted one in from the right side in the 76th minute to give Dayton their sixth straight win. Dayton's Kara Kenny started the scoring, knocking in a header after a corner kick at the 10:59 mark to put the Flyers ahead 1-0. SJU junior Kim Miller answered in the 54th minute, sending the ball to the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Michelle Ford. That set up Showalter's game-winner Saint Joseph's was outshot by Dayton, 17-6, while junior goalie Christy Ganc posted two saves on the night. She was matched in saves by Flyer keeper Stephanie Weisenfeld. SJU, now 5-7-2 overall, 2-4-2 in conference play, will continue their Ohio road trip Sunday, when they travel to Xavier to take on the Musketeers. The Flyers remain on top of the A-10 with a perfect 8-0 record , 10-5 overall.
