SCHUTT EARNS FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA FROM SOCCERBUZZ.COM
PHILADELPHIA (1/31/04) – The postseason honors continue to pile up for freshman phenom Megan Schutt. Today, she was named Honorable Mention Freshman All-America by SoccerBuzz.com. Schutt is the first Hawk to earn any sort of All-American honor in SJU history.
Schutt paced Saint Joseph's in goals (11), assists (5) and points (27) in 2003, leading the Hawks to their first ever berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The forward was named to the All-Atlantic 10 first team and A-10 All-Rookie team and was the conference's Rookie of the Year. Schutt also received All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Associated of America (NSCAA). SoccerBuzz named her to its Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman team earlier this week.
The Sudbury, Ontario native set SJU freshman records for goals, assists, and points and her offensive output was the second best performance in team history behind Stenrud's 1997 campaign (12-6-30). Schutt finished second in the Atlantic 10 in points and third in goals.
Besides qualifying for the Atlantic 10 postseason, SJU set team records for conference wins (seven) and its 9-8-1 overall record was the best since 1999.
Schutt was the only Atlantic 10 player to receive Freshman All-America recognition.
